Lesson Plan for Hieroglyphs

Spotting Hieroglyphs in the Manchester Museum

The Manchester Museum has an excellent Egyptology collection. Children will have fun trying to find the following examples of hieroglyphs they have learned in the workshop. In each case, to prove they have found the example they must write down where they saw it - i.e. on what object it was written. Answers are given below, although some of these hieroglyphs may be found in many locations in the collection so there is no correct answer. Copy and paste the table below along with the list of hieroglyphs, and give it to the children. If the clues provided are not enough you may have to direct the children to the specific locations.
