Lesson Plan: Making Masks

The Greeks wore masks when acting, made of linen and glue moulded to fit the actor's face. The symbol for the theatre is still the Greek tragedy and comedy masks The children can make their own masks either to wear in play performances, or for display. Originally I had included mask-making as part of the Greek workshop, but there was not enough time. You will need about an hour. Materials required include:
A4 card pencils scissors plasticine (for resting the card on when making holes) rulers elastic |
staplers coloured paper coloured pens sellotape glue sticks (Pritt sticks) other decorative materials, e.g. wool for hair, glitter |
