Myths Religion was very important to the ancient Greeks. They did not have a Bible or a Koran, but instead a huge number of myths. Myths were stories, mainly about gods and heroes. Gods were very powerful beings who took the shape of men and women. They controlled different aspects of the world, like rain, thunder and lightning (Zeus), crops (Demeter), and the sea (Poseidon). Myths explained to the Greeks how their world had come about and what their history was. Many of these stories are still popular today. For example, the film Troy comes from a Greek myth called The Iliad. List of the Roman versions of Greek names Name That God games (from pictures and descriptions) |
